Subscription & Trial
How the trial works, what the plans are, and what every status message means.
The free trial
Every new account starts with a free trial: full functionality, no payment method required up front. The status bar in the app counts down the remaining days.
What happens at the end of the trial depends on one thing: whether a payment method is on file.
- Payment method added: your subscription starts seamlessly. You're told the exact amount and date in advance ("You will be charged X after your free trial ends on Y").
- No payment method: nothing is charged, and timelit pauses. The background features stop working until you add a payment method. Your data and settings are kept.

If your organization assigns you a Teams seat, it covers your access. The app will point out that you may want to cancel your personal subscription to avoid double billing. Your personal plan going inactive while a team plan covers you is normal and shown as such.
Managing your subscription
Settings → Subscription is the hub: upgrade, open the Stripe billing portal (change payment method, download invoices, cancel), or resubscribe after a cancellation. Cancelling never cuts you off immediately; access runs until the end of the period you paid for.
Status messages, decoded

Good to know
- The status bar at the top of the app always reflects your current state. If it says Pro Plan or Teams Plan, everything is fine.
- Stopping never deletes anything. Your configuration, knowledge, and history are all there when you come back.
