Licenses & Billing
One subscription, multiple seats: the organization buys timelit Teams licenses and assigns them to members. Billing runs through Stripe; the organization owner pays, members just work.
How it works
- Purchase seats. On Teams → Licenses, choose how many licenses you need and complete the Stripe checkout. The final price is always shown in the checkout before you pay.
- Assign them. Each seat covers one member. Assign and reassign seats on the Members tab as your team changes. Seats belong to the organization, not the person.
- Manage everything in the billing portal. Manage subscription opens the Stripe billing portal: change seat count, update the payment method, download invoices, or cancel.
The Licenses overview shows
- Your plan with price per seat and billing cycle
- Seats in use (e.g. "7 / 10 seats in use")
- Next renewal date, or trial end date while trialing
- The list of licensed members currently covered
Payment states you might see
| State | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Payment failed / past due | A charge didn't go through. Stripe retries automatically and service continues in the meantime. | Update the payment method in the billing portal before retries run out, otherwise access stops. |
| Cancels at period end | The subscription won't renew; access ends with the current period. | Reactivate in the billing portal if that's not what you wanted. |
| Trialing | Your organization is in its free trial. | Add a payment method before the trial ends for uninterrupted access. |
Good to know
- Members see their coverage under Settings → Subscription as "managed by your organization". They never deal with billing themselves.
- Removing a member frees their seat for someone else; it doesn't change what you pay until you reduce seats in the billing portal.
- An organization with active subscriptions can't be deleted. Cancel them first.
